As a therapists, we often stress the importance of self-care to our clients. In this day and age, how many of us really give ourselves permission to take care of OURSELVES?
“Well, I don’t want to be selfish. After all, I have too much to do. I need to grocery shop, pick-up dry cleaning, take little Johnny to baseball practice, clean the house for company, and take the dog for shots, etc…”
The fact is, we are ALWAYS going to have something on our to-do list. That’s why it is so important to take care of ourselves as well. That way, we can maintain our sanity with our busy lives.
“But It’s been so long, I don’t even know how to take care of myself anymore.”
No worries. Everyone is unique and not everything will benefit you, nor feel like self-care. The fun part is that you get to experiment to find out what works for you. To help narrow it down, think about what has worked in the past that was relaxing to you. What are you passionate about? What really “feeds” you? What have you not been able to do in a while that you really want to do?
