What Is Major Depressive Disorder?
There are times you may feel sad, lonely, or hopeless for a few days. But major depression — clinical depression — is disabling. It can prevent you from functioning normally.
What Is Chronic Depression or Dysthymia?
Depression symptoms include:
- Isolation/withdrawn from friends and family
- Loss of interest in or enjoyment of their favorite activities
- Sense of hopelessness
- Consumed by negative thoughts
- Low self-esteem
- Excessive worry/anxiety
- You may also notice a significant change in appetite or weight or a change in sleeping patterns
Other symptoms include an overwhelming sense of hopelessness, unexplained aches and pains, and increased sensitivity, trouble concentrating, fatigue or lack of energy, thoughts of suicide and substance use/abuse.
