Sarah Thompson is the Lead Therapist on the CCC team. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and works with children, teens, young adults, adults and parents. She earned her Masters of Science degree in Art Therapy Counseling from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Sarah is devoted to creating a safe and supportive therapeutic space with her clients in order to build trust, empathy, and a meaningful relationship. She believes the therapeutic relationship and collaboration is key to guide her clients in exploring and supporting their goals and strengths. Sarah also believes clients are leaders in their own therapy, and she works to empower them to make positive change in order to grow, heal, and live a full and meaningful life.


Since 2011, Sarah has been supporting and improving the emotional, social, physical, and mental health of individuals, families, couples, and groups across the lifespan. Her experience began in therapeutic recreation, psychiatric rehabilitation, and prior to joining the Creative Counseling Center team in 2019, Sarah worked in an outpatient community mental health setting for four years. She has extensive background working with individuals from all walks of life who have experienced acute and chronic stress, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder, anxiety and panic disorder, support for parents and particularly mothers, anger management, substance abuse and addiction, grief and loss, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD), supporting those with acute or chronic illness, unspecified psychosis and schizophrenia, personality disorders, eating related disorders, suicidal thoughts and self-harm, developmental/cognitive challenges, those on the autism spectrum, and those exploring their sexual identity and identifying as being part of the LGBTQ+ community.


Sarah incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities in her counseling including Art Therapy (directive and non-directive), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic talk therapy. Sarah also has great success with Habit Reversal Training (HRT), is a behavioral therapy treatment for repetitive behavioral disorders such as Tourette syndrome, tics characterized by other disorders (such as ADHD and Autism), trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling), nail biting, skin picking, and other maladaptive behaviors.


With her specialty in Art Therapy, Sarah strongly believes in the innate healing qualities of art making, and believes, with her professional support, anyone with whom art resonates can express their creativity to resolve inner conflicts, increase self-awareness, gain insight, reduce stress, improve self-esteem, and so much more.
