When it comes to unlocking your true potential, there’s plenty of motivating and inspiring advice out there. You can do it! Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right. You are confined only by the walls you build yourself. And these quips are great. The problem is they don’t help us take action. They don’t help us come to believe that we can accomplish our goals. They don’t help us break through those walls we’ve built around ourselves.

Enter EFT tapping…

You may or may not be familiar with Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT tapping. EFT tapping is a proven healing tool—used universally across age, sex, race, ethnicity and gender—to remove the physical, mental and emotional blocks that prevent us from becoming the truly amazing people we are. By tapping on various points along the Chinese meridian system, we can rebalance the body’s energy system and cleanse ourselves of the negative stories we tell ourselves—the stories that keep our potential locked away and prevent us from becoming our most extraordinary selves.

Sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo? There are libraries of research that validate the science of EFT tapping. A simple online search for “eft research” will reveal countless studies performed by Stanford, Harvard, and many other prestigious universities, clinics and hospitals. But no matter how many successful studies are performed, the true test of EFT tapping is the effect it has on you.

Step 1. Rate your happiness on a scale of 1-10, 1 being completely happy and 10 being not happy at all. The number you rate is the amount of times you will repeat this exercise. Step 2. Tap on the karate chop point of your hand and recite the following:

Even though I’m not sure I’m ready to really own my own happiness because that would mean me being happy, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Even though I’m not deserving of my own happiness, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Even though I’m afraid of stepping into my own happiness, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Step 3. Negative reminder phrases: Recite the following phrases while tapping on the corresponding points.

Tapping Point Phrase
Head Even though I have been telling myself a really great story all of these years.
Eyebrow I’m not sure that I’m ready to give up that story.
Side of the Eye What if I could be happy, truly happy?
Under the Eye What if life could be easy?
Under the Nose I’m not sure about that. I’ve been told it has to be difficult.
Chin I choose to know that I am open to receiving all of the possibilities in my life.
Collarbone I allow myself to be open to me loving my life!
Under Arm I am responsible for creating my happiness, and I choose to start now!

Step 4. Positive reminder phrases: Recite the following phrases while tapping on the corresponding points.

Tapping Point Phrase
Head I am allowing happiness, joy, and glory to flow into my life with ease.
Eyebrow I choose to grateful for all that I am and all that I have.
Side of the Eye I am allowing an abundance of joy to flow into my life.
Under the Eye I deserve to be happy and show up as my magnificent self.
Under the Nose I trust in this process of allowing incredible adventures to show up in my life.
Chin Happiness fills me.
Collarbone I am choosing to create my own happiness. I love my life.
Under Arm I am blessed and filled with gratitude.

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 the number you rated yourself in Step 1.
